In my view, psychotherapy is a dynamic talking therapy which enables us to gain a clearer sense of ourselves and our environment and discover different ways of improving our lives.
I find psychotherapy to be effective in considering how to deal with the challenges of life such as, evolving an improved sense of self, dealing with unexpected troubling events, resolving difficult relationship issues and discovering choices within studies or employment. At the heart of this exploration is the development of a unique working relationship between client and psychotherapist.
In essence, psychotherapy sessions are purposeful conversations in which a joint exploration is undertaken of client feelings, familial and cultural origins and events in life, whether in the present or the past. As a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist I value the flexible use of long held psychoanalytic theories combined with current theoretical notions.
Depending on the nature and depth of the problem the number of sessions might be fixed or extended over an open-ended period towards an eventual agreed ending. To begin with it is useful to have at least one session a week to establish and maintain the working relationship.
